Meet Heather

Heather Moreno is a Certified Public Accountant, a self-employed businesswoman and currently serves as the Atascadero Mayor.  Since moving to Atascadero in 2004, she’s been energetically involved in our community, promoting a positive business climate and protecting homeowners’ rights.

Heather was appointed to our City’s Planning Commission in 2008 and served as Chairperson in 2010. She became an Atascadero City Councilwoman in 2012 and served as Mayor Pro-Tem during 2015 -2016. Heather was elected as Mayor in 2018 and re-elected in 2020.

Heather is Atascadero’s representative on the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments, the Regional Transportation Authority and is our representative with REACH, the Regional Economic Action Coalition.

Mayor Moreno advocates for a strong local economy, fiscal stewardship, ensuring public safety and protecting Atascadero’s local control. She works with the private sector and every level of government to foster the health of our economy and community.

She knows that our thriving volunteer spirit and strong community partnerships are key to making Atascadero a vibrant City. A committed volunteer and community member, Heather dedicates many hours to organizations such as the El Camino Homeless Organization, Friends of the Atascadero Library, and Atascadero Greyhound Foundation. She also served on the board of the Central Coast California chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Moreno earned her BA degree in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton and was employed as a CPA by KPMG, one of the “Big Four” international accounting firms, until she decided to strike out on her own. Today, Heather owns a health and wellness consulting firm and in 2013 she earned her Master’s degree from Fuller Theological Seminary.

In her spare time Heather enjoys keeping fit, reading, and dancing (thank you Dancing With our Stars!). She is married to Mike Moreno, her husband of 22 years, and she’s thankful when Mike dances with her!
